Up until two years ago the fan club parade in the finish area of the Saslong was basically a matter for local fans. First Christof Innerhofer’s fans, then Patrick Staudacher’s fans won the fan club competition. Last year, however, the fans of the Italian national team, the fan club “Sarone per gli azzurri”, managed to claim the prize for themselves.
This year Silvan Zurbriggen’s fans caused an upset at the fan club parade and were able to take home the coveted prize. In fact they copied their idol who celebrated his second World Cup victory here in Gardena/Gröden last year. Due to the cancellation of the race Zurbriggen will remain the reigning champion of the Gardena/Gröden Downhill for another year. So in a way you could say that Zurbriggen and his fans celebrated the first double victory in the Downhill and fan club competition.

Zurbriggen’s fans have been in Gardena/Gröden for five consecutive years and always score with a very pleasant tradition: They distribute Swiss cheese and wine among the other spectators. This year the 25-strong Swiss fan club arrived in Gardena/Gröden already on Thursday, so as to be able to enjoy the whole weekend. Having now won the fan club parade, the Swiss have earned themselves another weekend in Gardena/Gröden, but this time in the warm mountain summer: Together with Silvan Zurbriggen, who has already agreed to come, the fans can come and discover the Dolomites and look forward to a special surprise in one of the mountain huts in Gardena/Gröden.
