Bryce Bennett opens the downhill classic
On Friday evening, the ten best downhill skiers in the world chose their starting numbers for the downhill classic on the Saslong at the Medal Plaza "La Stua" in Selva/Gardena.
Bryce Benett will be the first of a total of 64 racers to pull out of the starting house on Saturday. Weather permitting, he will take off promptly at 11:45 am. The fastest in training, Kjetil Jansrud from Norway, who already showed great results in the super-G, will follow with number 5, while super-G triumphant Vincent Kriechmayr (Austria) will be the ninth athlete to start.
The winners of this year's two downhill races, Germany's Thomas Dreßen and Switzerland's Beat Feuz, have the numbers 11 and 13, respectively. Local favorite Dominik Paris from nearby Ulten, on the other hand, will be on the track with the number 17, making him the penultimate runner from the absolute top group ahead of last year's winner Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (Norway), who has the number 19.
Apart from Paris, only one other South Tyrolean, Peter Fill from Castelrotto/Kastelruth, will be on the Saslong on Saturday: The two-time winner of the downhill crystal ball will start bib number 22.
