David Kostelka wins the “Saslong – Passion & Performance” photo competition
This year, the organizers of the Saslong Classic held their fifth international photo competition under the motto “Saslong – Passion & Performance.” Following Friday's super-G, the three best photographers in the competition were honored at the press center.
Czech sports photographer David Kostelka was celebrated as the winner of the photo competition. Kostelka impressed the jury with a race shot taken directly at the camel humps, which particularly highlights the dynamic interplay of sunlight and snow. “The picture impressively shows the power and speed with which the athletes race down the Saslong,” said the jury.
Leo Föger and Christophe Pallot took second and third place, respectively, behind Kostelka. Föger was honored for his photo showing the imposing size of the mountains in relation to the athletes on the slope. Pallot, on the other hand, scored with a picture that highlights the contrast between light and shadow in the last curve before the finish line.
As the winner of the photo competition, David Kostelka receives a shopping voucher worth €500 to be used in participating stores in Val Gardena/Gröden. Second and third place receive the same voucher worth €300 and €200, respectively.
“We would like to express our sincere thanks to all the photographers and journalists who report on the Val Gardena/Gröden Race Week. With their stories, pictures, and videos, they help to spread the news about the World Cup races on the Saslong from the heart of the Dolomites to the whole world. Their commitment is of central importance for the staging of the World Cup races.”
