“Excellent conditions for the classic downhill race"
On Friday, the fifth and final team captains’ meeting for the 58th Saslong Classic was held in Selva/Wolkenstein. The organizers were able to present a positive outlook for Saturday’s downhill race.
The president of the Saslong Classic Club, Rainer Senoner, welcomed several prominent guests to the meeting. Among them were Urs Lehmann (CEO of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation FIS), Janne Leskinen (Chairman of the FIS Ski World Cup Committee) and Tito Giovannini (Director of Infront Sports & Media and member of the Board of Directors of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Foundation).
One day before the classic downhill race, technical delegate Peter Namberger gave a thoroughly positive interim assessment: "The slope is in very good condition and the external conditions are also excellent. We had a great super-G today with a very special podium."
FIS Race Director Markus Waldner was very optimistic about the weather on Saturday. The forecasts promise dry conditions and, at most, light cloud cover. "We are therefore confident that the classic downhill race can go ahead as planned. We are very much looking forward to the race," said Waldner.
Hannes Trinkl, World Cup Race Director for the speed disciplines, agreed with Waldner and also spoke of a "very good" course. "Nothing stands in the way of Saturday's race, in which ÖSV athlete Raphael Haaser and two French athletes are scheduled to be the forerunners," Trinkl concluded.
The classic downhill race will start on Saturday at 11:45 am. The race will be opened by two-time Saslong winner Bryce Bennett.
