First downhill training cancelled
The first training run for the downhill classic on the Saslong had to be cancelled due to fog banks in the middle part of the track.
Because the fog was persistent and even after a long wait the visibility continued to be sub-optimal, the race jury decided to cancel the training run. "The limited visibility put the safety of the racers at risk making a regular race impossible," commented FIS Chief Race Director Markus Waldner on the decision.
Already in the early morning it had been decided to start the first training from the first reserve start. A few centimetres of fresh snow in the upper part of the track in addition to warm temperatures had seriously affected the course led to this decision.
There will only be one training run ahead of Saturday’s downhill. This is planned for Thursday at 11:45 am.
