Horst Demetz & his course crew: The silent heroes of the Saslong.
The heavy snowfalls during the night from Thursday to Friday posed a great challenge to the organizing committee of the 55th Saslong Classic. But when it comes to preparing the slopes or removing the snow, the OC team can rely on a course crew that does a great job behind the scenes.
25 to 30 centimeters of fresh snow in the start area, just under 20 centimeters in the lower part of the course: there is a lot of work to be done on the Saslong in preparation for the super-G before the 100th World Cup race is scheduled to start at 11:45 a.m.
The course crew in Val Gardena/Gröden has been hard at work since the early hours of the morning with 80 men to clear the course of fresh snow. The well-prepared team is once again doing an outstanding job and shows with its commitment what is possible through the motto "Passion & Performance".
Horst Demetz has been responsible for the Gardena-Gröden course crew, which is known throughout the World Cup circuit for its know-how, for over two decades. The piste manager has been in charge of his team for 23 years now and knows very well what needs to be done when nature gets the upper hand. The fact that the races have only had to be cancelled three times in these years is clear evidence of the comprehensive expertise of Demetz' and his crew.
