"One of the most difficult and most beautiful editions"

19.12.2020

With the victory of the outstanding Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, an extraordinary Val Gardena/Gröden race week came to an end on Saturday. The president of the Saslong Classic Club, Rainer Senoner, can look back on a successful World Cup stage under special circumstances.

Saslong Editorial: Mr. Senoner, what is your first reaction after a racing week that was anything but easy?
This year's edition of the Saslong Classic was certainly one of the most difficult, but at the same time also one of the most beautiful. I would like to thank all the staff, the whole valley and also the province of South Tyrol for their support and flexibility - without the help of every single person a successful race week would not have been possible.

The flawless organization was praised from all sides. How do you evaluate this in times of the coronavirus pandemic?
The words of praise mean a lot to us, of course, and are an expression that our work is appreciated. They also show that we made the right decisions at the right time under the current circumstances. From a sporting point of view, the racers from Norway and the USA once again dominated the Saslong.

What do these nations have ahead of the Italians?
Val Gardena/Gröden has its own conditions: the snow is different in a certain way and also otherwise the course is full of special challenges. The Norwegians seem to cope best with that at the moment. Of course, we hope that the Italians will be able to have a say in the fight for the top positions again in the near future.

Thank you for the interview and Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone. I hope that we will be able to welcome all ski fans back to Val Gardena/Gröden next year.
