Opening of Südtirol Ski Trophy Hall of Fame

11.12.2017

In just a few days, the first of the four men’s Ski World Cup races is taking place in South Tyrol. To kick it off, the Südtirol Ski Trophy Hall of Fame was inaugurated this morning in the Saslong Hut. The trophies for those who win the most points during the South Tyrol World Cup races, in Val Gardena/Gröden and Alta Badia, will be displayed here.

The winner of the inaugural 2016 Südtirol Ski Trophy was Norwegian Kjetil Jansrud. He couldn’t attend the celebration today but was represented by a replica in the form of a wooden bust which is dedicated to him. The bust will be standing next to the racetrack in Alta Badia. "The Trophy helps to promote the product 'Südtirol' all round the world - in addition to the ski areas and the scenic beauty, this also includes local gastronomy," explains Markus Rabanser, member of the board of directors of IDM Südtirol, which organized the trophy.

The inauguration was held today together with Rainer Senoner, President of the Ski World Cup Val Gardena/Gröden Organizing Committee. Culinary highlight of the event was the "Siegergericht - Winner‘s Dish", thick spaghetti (spaghettoni) with sea buckthorn and "bottarga" of venison, which Kjetil Jansrud was able to create together with the South Tyrolean star chef Norbert Niederkofler. The award ceremony of the second edition of the Südtirol Ski Trophy will be held on December 18th after all four races are completed.

The winner will receive prize money of Euro 20,000, a wooden bust - and will contribute together with star chef Anna Matscher in the creation of an exclusive dish, which will be tasted next year.
