Premiere of the Speed Clinic with many beaming faces

11.12.2023

Gently introducing young female racers to the speed disciplines - that is the aim of the Speed Clinic in a nutshell. The first edition of this exceptional training camp for young women at the end of November on Piz Sella was a sensational success - on all levels.

The idea of the Speed Clinic was presented this year at the two FIS meetings in Dubrovnik and Zurich, where the newly created training program immediately met with great interest. And so it is hardly a surprise that 78 young female racers born between 2004 and 2007 took part in the Speed Clinic on Piz Sella premiere in the last week of November with 33 coaches. The Saslong Classic Club provided a coach to those athletes who had traveled without one.

The young female racers could carefully approach the speed and test their limits on the course on Piz Sella, where the traditional FIS races in the fast disciplines take place after the Speed Clinic. Naturally, many athletes from Italy and the surrounding Alpine regions accepted the offer. However, athletes from Latvia, Chile, Albania, Ireland and Macedonia also trained enthusiastically with their peers and prepared in perfect conditions. Despite all the hard work, there was no shortage of fun and good humor.

"The Speed Clinic was a great success, and due to the high level of interest, we will be offering this exceptional training camp for young women again next year. Together with the FIS races and the FIS training days that follow the races, we are making a huge commitment to the next generation of skiers. As World Cup organizers, we see it as our duty to invest in the training of young racers by hosting these various initiatives. In the past ten years, we have organized over 100 FIS races in the speed disciplines - this number impressively underpins our efforts in this direction," says Werner Perathoner, who is in charge of the Speed Clinic project together with Peter Runggaldier.
