Saslong Classic Club presents World Championship progress in Geneva

05.10.2026

The Saslong Classic Club used the FIS Autumn Meetings, held in Geneva for the first time, to exchange ideas with international partners and present its preparations for the 2031 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Val Gardena-Südtirol.

The multi-day gathering featured numerous discussions with other World Cup organizers, national ski associations and representatives of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS). The Val Gardena delegation also provided an update on the 2031 World Championship project.

The Saslong Classic Club was accompanied by Tobias Nocker, Mayor of Selva di Val Gardena and therefore representative of the municipality that will host the future World Championships. A special moment followed on the final day of the Alpine Committee meetings: former local ski racer Verena Stuffer was formally recognized as she approaches the end of her term as an athlete representative. She will continue in the role until the 2027 World Championships in Crans-Montana. Her mandate will then come to an end after eight years. Under the regulations, she is not eligible to stand for another term.

The FIS Autumn Meetings took place from 28 September to 3 October and were held in Geneva for the first time in 2026. The Saslong Classic Club is currently working intensively on preparations for the 59th Saslong Classic: the super-G is scheduled for Friday, 18 December, followed by the downhill on Saturday, 19 December.
