Snow control passed - FIS gives the green light for the classic Saslong races

07.12.2019

After the routine snow check on Saturday, it was no surprise that FIS officially confirmed the two World Cup races in Val Gardena/Gröden planned for Friday, 20 December (Super-G) and Saturday, 21 December (downhill) thanks to the heavy snowfalls in mid-November and the cold temperatures over the past few days, which made it possible to produce enough technical snow.

"The fresh snow in November was very good for the safety areas and, of course, also for the panoramic views. In order to make the race course race-ready, however, we still needed high-quality, technical snow. We were able to produce this in the past few days - and were much more efficient thanks to the investments made by the lift company Saslong SpA in new DEMACLENKO snow cannons," says Rainer Senoner, President of the Saslong Classic Club and race director.

So nothing stands in the way of the South Tyrolean World Cup classic races on the last weekend before Christmas. After the two downhill trainings on Wednesday and Thursday, the super-G will open the big World Cup party in Val Gardena/Gröden on Friday, 20 December. On Saturday, 21 December, the legendary downhill follows. Both trainings and the two races are scheduled to start at 11:45 am.

Varied entertainment program

Val Gardena/Gröden not only scores with its athletic offer, but the organizers also offer a varied entertainment program to the attending crowd. Both races will kick off with the official bib draw at the medal Plaza “La Stua” in Selva/Wolkenstein on the evening before the day of each race. Additionally, on Friday night the focus will be on the skiing legends of days past. Bernhard Russi, Patrick Russel, Michèle Jacot, Ingrid Lafforgue, Annerösli Zryd, Annemarie Moser-Pröll, Florence Steurer-Penz, Dumeng Giovanoli, Karl Cordin and South Tyrolean ski legend Gustav Thöni are expected to attend the 1970 World Ski Championship Anniversary Party on Friday evening in the Saslounge VIP tent in the Saslong Stadium. Tickets for this exclusive evening are still available. On Friday and Saturday, local radio station Südtirol 1 On Tour will pitch its tents at the Dosses square in St. Cristina. The Saslonch Hut and Lisas' Alm will attract ski fans with live streaming, munchies and an After Party with live music.
