The classic races on the Saslong on December 15 and 16 are now also officially confirmed

25.05.2023

During the 54th Congress of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation FIS in Zurich on Thursday, the competition calendars for the 2023/24 season were approved. As expected, the usual date on the last weekend before Christmas was confirmed for Val Gardena/Gröden.

The men's alpine skiing World Cup calendar thus once again include the two speed events in Val Gardena/Gröden, which will take place as part of the 56th Saslong Classic on Friday, December 15 (super-G) and Saturday, December 16 (downhill) continuing with the tradition just before Christmas. "We are of course very pleased that we are firmly anchored in the international calendar as a classic race with over 100 World Cup races. Even though it is still more than half a year until our speed races, the preparations in the background are already running at full speed. Our aim is to offer the thousands of spectators perfectly organized competitions and a no less than spectacular entertainment program," explains Rainer Senoner, President of the Organizing Committee.

But it is not only in terms of the World Cup races on the renowned South Tyrolean downhill course that a lot of passion is currently being put into work in Val Gardena/Gröden. A lot will happen in the next few weeks for the candidacy for the Alpine World Ski Championships 2029. The dedicated team is currently working on the final details of the application questionnaire, which must be submitted to the FIS by August 1, at the latest.

The final decision on who will win the bid for the World Ski Championships in six years' time will be made at the 55th FIS Congress in Reykjavik on June 4, 2024.
