Vertical Up: Victories for Hannes Perkmann and Marlies Penker
Under very good conditions, the Hannes Perkmann from South Tyrol’s Sarentino/Sarntal and the Austrian Marlies Penker were able to capture the victory.
Perkmann placed second at last year’s Vertical Up in Val Gardena/Gröden. "I knew the track so I could organize the race well. I was in the lead right from the start and was able to master the delicate parts of the Saslong, "said Perkmann, who was just 25 years old and reached the finish at the Hotel Sochers in 18.41.7 minutes. "The last climb on the Sochers wall was very demanding." Second was the Alex Oberbacher (+1.02.9) from Val Gardena/Gröden on touring skis, third Hans Peter Meyer from Austria (+1.36,6).
In the women's event, Austrian Marlies Penker won in 23.13.3 minutes, just nine seconds ahead of Annelise Felderer from Sarentino/Sarntal and another six seconds ahead of her compatriot Susanne Mair. The three women were on the podium in a different order at the Vertical Up race in Pinzolo, Trentino. "All three are winners, because we are only separated by a few seconds," said the Carinthian Penker.
