Vitalini Speed Contest: Where young skiers can get a taste of World Cup air
As soon as the super-G comes to an end on Friday, 20 December, 120 young athletes will get the chance to race from the exit of the Ciaslat over the finish schuss to the stadium in S. Cristina. Within the framework of the Vitalini Speed Contest, young racers born in 2008 and 2009 can immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere of the legendary classic and feel like Dominik Paris, Beat Feuz and Kjetil Jansrud, or Sofia Goggia, Nicol Delago and Ilka Štuhec during their ride.
After the great success of the premiere last year, it was clear that the Vitalini Speed Contest will also take place at the 2019 World Cup. This sporting competition on the legendary Saslong is not about setting the fastest time. The winners are those ski kids who reach the highest speed on the passage between the exit of Ciaslat and the finish line.
"The special thing about this initiative is that the little ones can follow in the footsteps of their great role models. There will be bib draw at the 'Medal Plaza La Stua' in Selva Gardena/Gröden on Thursday at 5:00 pm. The race itself will be broadcast on the big screen at the finish. The winners will be honored on the World Cup podium followed by a press conference at the media center. So everything is based on the real World Cup", explain project managers Manuela Perathoner, Alexander Rabanser and Horst Demetz.
Before their big performance, the children will be able to watch the men's super-G live in the finish stadium - to learn from the professionals how to do it right. Interested ski clubs who would like to participate in the Vitalini Speed Contest with their young athletes born in 2008 and 2009 can contact Manuela Perathoner by mail until 15 December.
