“We are convinced that we can present a race-ready race track"
At the third team captains' meeting in Selva/Wolkenstein on Wednesday evening, the focus was primarily on the weather. While the snowfall on Wednesday did not allow for a final training session, the organizers are doing their best to put together a fair downhill on Thursday.
"Due to the weather, no training run was possible today. Unfortunately, the weather forecast was not quite what we had expected," explained the President of the Saslong Classic Club, Rainer Senoner, at the start of the meeting, adding: "A lot of good work was done on the course. We have now cleared the track twice."
Senoner assured that the OC team would do "everything in its power" to get the first downhill race off the ground on Thursday. The downhill, which will be held as a replacement race for Zermatt-Cervinia, will take place on a shortened course from the super-G start, just like last year. Running times of around 1.25 minutes are to be expected.
FIS Race Director Markus Waldner is optimistic about Thursday: "The course has a very good base. It has snowed a lot, but the snowfall should stop throughout of the evening. Then we can clear the course with machines. We are convinced that we will be able to present a race-ready race travk for the shortened run."
Waldner would also have liked to see a training session on Wednesday, but that was out of the question in view of the three upcoming races. "I am confident that we will have three good speed events in fair conditions," concluded the FIS Race Director.
The downhill on Thursday starts at 11:45 a.m. Here is the complete race schedule.
