“We will be able to prepare a fair course”

19.12.2024

At the team captains' meeting on Thursday evening in Selva/Wolkenstein, the weather conditions were the main topic of conversation in view of the super-G on Friday.

Rainer Senoner, President of the Saslong Classic Club, welcomed a large number of guests at the meeting. Among those present were also several prominent visitors, such as FIS Secretary General Michel Vion and the OC teams of the World Cup stages in Crans Montana, Madonna di Campiglio, Kvitfjell, Saalbach-Hinterglemm and Sölden.

Since snowfall is forecast for the night hours, the weather conditions are likely to present the organizers with the greatest challenge on Friday. “A front from the southwest is reported. It is warm and humid, with a few centimeters of fresh snow predicted. However, the precipitation should stop from 6:00 am,” reported FIS Race Director Markus Waldner. Some wind is also expected for Friday. However, this should not have too much of an impact on the race.

Waldner's team and the snow groomers will start as early as possible in the morning hours and will also work with them in view of the downhill on Saturday. “We are very confident that we can prepare a fair course - also because we know that we can rely on an excellent team with a lot of experience here in Val Gardena/Gröden,” said the FIS race director. Due to the unstable weather forecasts, he is planning to include four forerunners in the super-G.

The Technical Delegate Heinz Kabusch used the team captains' meeting to review the two downhill training sessions – especially the second training run on Wednesday – once again. Both training sessions went “very well. Now I wish all participants the best of luck for the upcoming races.”

The super-G on Friday is scheduled to start at 11:45 a.m. The race will be opened by the US-American Ryan Cochran-Siegle.
